APCON Registrar, Garba Kankarofi Disengages From Service -
Alhaji Garba Bello kankarofi, Outgoing Registrar, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) –

The advertising and marketing communications industry will in the next few days be agog with the news that the Registrar of Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi is set to retire from active service which means he will retire by the end of December this year.

Born on October 22, 1954 in the old city of Kano, Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi is the eldest son in the family of Alhaji Bello Sale Idris Kankarofi, a foremost public servant, and his wife, Hajia Binta Bello Mohammed.

He , enrolled at Urmawa Primary School, Kano in 1961, after which in 1968,
he was admitted to Government College (Now Rumfa College), Kano. Garba Bello Kankarofi worked with a media research group from the University of Michigan, U.S.A. from 1973 to 1974, and in that same year, he enrolled for the Higher School Certificate.

His foray into the media and advertising world started in 1974 when he joined the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation. Later , in 1977, he gained admission  into  Bayero University, Kano to study Mass Communication and later graduated in 1980 with a Bachelors Degree.

On graduation, he was employed to work with the Kano State Broadcasting Corporation From 1983 to 1993,when he headed the Commercial Services Department of the Broadcasting Corporation in Kano.

He was appointed the Managing Director of the Corporation in 1993, and served in that position until  2006, when he was appointed as the Registrar/ Chief Executive of the foremost regulatory body, the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria( APCON).

A Fellow of the Advertising Profession and a highly connected professional loved by many of the stakeholders in the industry, Kankarofi was once touted to be a strong contender for the position of Chairman, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) which is now headed by Honourable Jacob Sunday who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari On Friday 29th December.

In an exclusive chat with, Alhaji Kankarofi maintained that his next line of action is strictly kept to his chest until his formal and final  disengagement  from APCON.
